5 CAPTAIN’S REPORT: Knighton Heath, whilst a long and difficult course, had been enjoyed by the ladies on their Away Day. The Ladies Championship will be started by Steve Regler this year.

Pete Dicken had been going to start it, but due to his illness, was not quite fit enough yet. David Chalker would be giving out the cards. Anne Regler and Liz South would be in early enough to make sure the cards were put on the computer. Etc. The prizes were Pro Shop Vouchers, as Stuart had assured Lucy that he could order in anything that was wanted. The 4BBB was discussed. It was agreed that there would be a bottle raffle, which Dawn would organise. Vron and Sonia would be able to help on the desk at various times, and Connie offered to do the half way house until it was time for her to play. Mel Thomas has returned the Val Stringer Trophy to the Ladies, as the SAFFA day is now played at Mendip. It was agreed that it would be played for with a team event. Bowmaker, full handicap, 2 scores to count. The team would have to consist of a low, medium and high handicapper. Sonia to work out where the divisions would come. 1st October was suggested date

9 GENERAL COMMITTEE: No meeting held, but ongoing from the last one. Brian Burgess was sure that the Open green fees were going to be raised by £4 next year – Dave Nelson has said that as long as the prizes were bought through the Pro. Shop the green fee would stay the same - £10. With regards to the vouchers, at present, they are only redeemable either here or at Long Sutton. Dave Wye is going to suggest that if 10% of the total prize money is given to Somerset Golf Ltd, then perhaps the vouchers could be redeemed at other clubs and no-one would be out of pocket. It was suggested that next year it would be a good idea to find out when local clubs where having their Opens, so we did not clash.

10 COUNTY MATTERS: Connie reported that the County rep. for Long Sutton was very upset to hear the Club had been complained of, to the County, as she had not been present at the Rogers Cup Match or had heard about the problem before the last County meeting. Despite having been told by Dave Nelson that he would write to County to assure them of a welcome at Orchardleigh, this letter had not been sent on the wishes of the owners. The week long Inter County competition had been won by Gloucestershire with Somerset second.

11 ANY OTHER BUSINESS; The Somerset Senior Ladies Shield has been won this year by Orchardleigh – on c/b from Long Sutton.

Ladies Section Minutes - 30 April 2009

ORCHARDLEIGH GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY 30th April 2009

  1. PRESENT: Lucy Difazio, Di Norris, Jackie Pudney,Sonia Probert, Dawn Russell, Vron. Jefferies

Janith Small, Anne Regler. Connie Gilchrist

2     APOLOGIES: Hilary Weaver, Liz South

3      MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Accepted & Signed.

4.      MATTERS ARISING:

5      CAPTAIN’S REPORT: Lucy congratulated Jackie Pudney on winning the Barwell Masters and commiserated with Anne Regler on being beaten on count back.  There were two members who had to be disqualified – one Mary Ford, from the Barwell Masters and the second, Sonia Probert, from the Thursday Stableford.     In Mary’s case it was a straightforward 1 qualifying game suspension as she never turned up to play, having forgotten, but Sonia’s was slightly more difficult.  She was asked to leave the room whilst the rest of the Committee discussed it.   After much consideration, it was put to the vote and the unanimous decision was that she too should be disqualified from the next qualifying game.  It is unfortunate that this is the 1st round of the Vincent Cup, which has now reverted to the original format of having to play both days, so this disqualification amounts to a two game ban.  There were two letters which Lucy read out, one from Iris Macy thanking the section for the flowers they sent her after her operation and the second from Jackie Pudney re.  an incident during the Barwell Masters, on the third, when 2 men from a 4 ball which were following her and her playing partner, drove whilst they were still putting out.   Had the drives been straight, they would have been on the green.   Lucy is going to take the letter to the Club Captain.    Mrs Barwell agreed with the Committee that only the overall winners of the Medals and Stablefords should qualify for the Barwell Master.   This to be entered in the Trophy Book.

  1. 6.           TREASURER’S REPORT:

                                                        Balance at Bank 30/04/09                  £5444.85

                                                   Comprising:

                                                                         Captain’s charity                 1012.28

                                                                                    Section Money                     1617.57

                                                                                 Mixed Open             1180.00

                                                                                 Sept. 4BBB                              780.00

                                                                                 Ladies Bowmaker                 855.00

Jackie was concerned at the cost of printing which the office was now going to charge.  The Eclectic cards alone being photocopied were a potential cost of 75p per person entering, for the use of the Handicap Secretary and the Eclectic Organiser – It was decided that a notice should be put on the front of the Eclectic Book reminding people that their cards must have Name/Date/Eclectic Card Number/Handicap.  The Eclectic Organiser could take the scores from the book as they had been signed in by the card marker, but the book could not leave the changing room for long in case people wish to play in the evening.

7.      HANDICAPS   3 Bronze players had been cut after the last Qualifying Stableford – Jackie          Pudney by 4 strokes – Mollie Stebbings and Anne Kirk by 2 strokes.

8          COMPETITIONS:

8a            5th April Stableford – Marion Underhill – overall winner, Loes de Kleuver – silver

9th April Medal – Loes de Kleuver overall winner – Iris Macey – Bronze

18th April Medal – Helle Jones – overall winner – no bronze player

23rd April Stableford – Jackie Pudney – overall winner – Liz South – Silver

Barwell Masters – Jackie Pudney – net 73 on count back from Anne Regler

Coronation Foursomes – Mel Sutherland and Mary Lock – 40 points

8b            Alliance: Anne Regler was the only player to score against Filton when she halved her match

Interclub: No matches as yet but Wheathill have said there will be a hot meal for £6 and Mendip are offering tea and cake for £2.50

Ladies Friendliest:  Lost to Cumberwell away

Mixed Friendlies: Landsdown – hon. draw

9          GENERAL COMMITTEE:   There is a new Constitution being drawn up. Tommy Tulk from Long Sutton brought up their Constitution as a template for one for Orchardleigh.  There will be a Chairman, at present, Peter Chafer, Secretary – Lucy Difazio, Treasurer – Dave Wye – but because he is Club Captain and also Treasurer of the Men’s Section, they are looking for someone else – Sue Dicken, who is Junior Home Meet Organiser, has been approached.   3 nominees from the Proprietors, 3 Captains and 3 Vice Captains.     Sub Committees are : Handicaps & Comps – Chairman – Colin Drew.   Social Sub Committee – Volunteers wanted.   The question of the Quiz night was raised as the prizes – bottles of wine – are bought off the premises – this was not going to be allowed, so some other means of  obtaining prizes might have to be thought out.   The General Committee would meet on the 2nd Monday of every month.   There is to be an EGM to elect the officers for the Committee.   Notices will be posted.

10          COUNTY MATTERS: No report as the Secretary is ill and no minutes have been posted.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS; Dawn has been asked to source a Tankard from the Ladies Section for Ian’s leaving present.  It was also suggested that he is asked to partner the Lady Captain for her Day on Saturday 30th May, when he could be entertained by the Lady Captain and her section.

There appear to be some Mixed Friendlies organised on the same days as some of the Ladies Comps.  It was suggested that the rule of only 3 cards being signed by men could be suspended to allow some of the ladies to play in the evenings at week-ends, but this was not passed.   There had been some confusion over the second day of the Vincent Cup, with the notice telling players to book their own tee times and then finding that the tee times had been pre-booked.   It was agreed that it should be made clearer what was happening.   Liz South had asked as to why we had to sign in for Competitions like the Coronation Foursomes whilst the Men do’nt   This question had been raised at the AGM – the answer was so that the Treasurer could check who had paid.  We do not sign in on the Computer, so there is no record.   It was muted that there might be a section for signing in this type of comp. on the computer.  The matter to be looked into.

Long Sutton has a combined handicap and competition secretary.  It was discussed as to whether this would be workable at Orchardleigh, but the majority of the Committee were not in favour.

It was raised at the General  committee that the three captains should synchronise their years.  The suggestion was that the AGMs should be at the end of November, and then there would be a handover period of 1 month, with the 3 new Captains ‘driving in’ on January 1st.    This is waiting ratification from the General Committee.

It was then noted that Nicola Penny had merely scratched her name from the Barwell Masters entry sheet 24 hours before the game.   She had not notified Sonia, or her playing partners to our knowledge.  Sonia was going to phone her to find out her reason for withdrawing without notifying anyone.   Findings to be brought to next meeting.

Meeting ended 5.15p.m.  -       Next meeting 28th May at 3p.m.

3    MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Accepted & Signed.

  • 4. MATTERS ARISING: The Bring & Buy held on the Draw Night raised just over £90 but since the food was £5 ahead, the evening ran at a loss. It was decided that next year's Committee would have to look into making the evening more profitable.

  • 5. CAPTAIN'S REPORT: I am sure you are all aware the Club has been bought by the owners of Long Sutton Golf Club. The three Captains are meeting them next Wednesday evening when I will put any questions you may wish raised. The good news is we still have a golf club. The notice which appeared on the front desk has been causing some concern as it would imply that we can no longer assume that we can block book times for our ladies roll up,, medals etc. Having looked at the Long Sutton website and printed off the Ladies Monthly roll-ups, the Management have now agreed to let us block book, so long as we use it sensibly. Block bookings for Competitions to be raised at Management meeting. Tuesday bookings may also be questioned. The Open Bowmaker has tee times booked from 9 - 12 - that is 57 ladies. There needs to be more entries, so to push it at any matches etc. also on the Coffee morning which is well supported. Notices to go up for cakes, jams etc, plants. Tombola instead of raffle. 3 Captains Day raffle to be run by Dawn.

Ladies Section Minutes - 5 March 2009

ORCHARDLEIGH GOLF CLUB LADIES SECTION

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON THURSDAY 5th March 2009

  1. 1.      PRESENT: Lucy Difazio, Di Norris, Jackie Pudney,Sonia Probert, Dawn Russell, Vron. Jefferies

Janith Small, Anne Regler. Hilary Weaver, Liz South

2     APOLOGIES:

3      MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Accepted & Signed.

  1. 4.        MATTERS ARISING: Lucy reported that the Cats Competition and raffle had raised £216.60.  There had been some controversy over how this money should be distributed.  She had decided that, with the Committee’s approval, the money should be given to Di and if she wished to give a donation to the charity, so be it.   This was approved and Di was called in and presented with a cheque, for which she was very grateful. Lucy also thanked her for the wonderful pancakes with an excellent selection of fillings – all fattening.

The Bring and Buy sale after the Draw night was discussed and it was decided to split the proceeds              50/50 between the Ladies Section and the Charity. Dawn and Vron will be in charge of a % table – an idea of Liz South’s, whereby anyone wanting to sell a large item, can give a percentage of the price to the funds.

Ian and Hannah’s present had been purchased and was slightly less than original invoiced, so the          money was made up to £120 with a gift voucher.

  1. 5.       CAPTAIN’S REPORT:  Not much to report.  As I am sure you all know, there have been three offers for the Club and no report yet as to which one might be the buyer (If any!) Still a question of wait and see.  Pancake day has been covered in the previous  item.  Our next social event is the Knockout Draw evening on 24th March (assuming that we are still running as a club at that time)  This will be followed by a ‘Bring and Buy Sale’.   This sale is not restricted to Club members, so please tell your friends that they are welcome to come along and participate in both the bringing and the buying.  The more the merrier.    Qualifying competitions have started already and as we have more this year, in line with EWGA rules, it will be interesting to see if handicaps fluctuate more than before (I would expect this to be the case, if we all choose to play them all!)   Good luck to everyone.   Lets hope for a good season.

  1. 6.       TREASURER’S REPORT:

                                                        Balance at Bank 04/03/09                  £2226.39

                                                   Comprising:

                                                                         Captain’s charity                 421.54

                                                                                    Section Money                   1554.85

                                                                                 Mixed Open             250.00

  1. 7.       HANDICAPS   Nothing to Report.
  2. 8.       COMPETITIONS:

8a            Sunday Stableford was won by Liz South.  It was reduction only.    Ladies and Seniors Roll up on 26th May.

8b            Alliance: Ladies Friendlies:   Mixed Friendlies:  N/R

8c            Interclub: List on notice board for ladies wishing to play to put their availability on.

.

9          GENERAL COMMITTEE:   There had been only 10 tables at the last Quiz Night, which is down from the usual number.   Next one on March 21st.   The fixture list is ready for printing, but is onhold at present.  There was a request for early spaces for non competition players on week-ends, but this has been refused at present.   The handicap review saw 30 increases and 5 cuts.   The men’s section has no Treasurer, so it is unclear how much is in their account at present, but Dave Wye has been assured it is secure.  Dave Nelson attended the meeting to update it on the present state of play with the interested parties for the club.  There is nothing to report until the accountants in Bristol have reported back to the Bank,

10          COUNTY MATTERS: No report

ANY OTHER BUSINESS; Anne will put up a copy of a letter she has received re. inactive handicaps and the method of dealing with them.  This comes into operation in 2010  This entails 3 cards in a calendar year.  It was suggested that we also should also revert to a Calendar year in 2010, for our qualifying cards for our competitions.  With all the qualifiers available, this should not inconvenience any of the ladies.  The question of whether the Ladies Championship cards counted, was raised, and it was agreed that in future they should be counted.     There were 2 letters from EWGA – one suggesting that we dedicated the proceeds of a Stableford competiton to the EWGA trust which helps buy equipment etc. for juniors.  The committee felt that if they did this, they would want to give the proceeds to our own Junior Section.   The other letter was re. the EWGA adoption of the Anti-doping rules.  This letter is on file.

Meeting ended 4.15p.m.  -       Next meeting 2nd April at 3p.m.

               9.     REPORT FROM GREENS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE: There have been questions posted in the book as to why we are not using the proper Tees while the weather is dry – the reason is to divert the wear away from the tee area and rest the tees so the grass can grow.  A headstone has been placed by the memorial tree on the 3rd.  This has been done without permission and the manager has written to ask for it to be removed.  During the freezing weather the greenstaff have been busy cleaning and varnishing T markers and benches.   Dave is concerned that since the ground is frozen to a depth of 8”, when the frost starts to come out, after 2 “ anyone walking on it will cause movement underneath which will tear the grass roots, so it might be necessary to close for a day or two.    He is hoping, if the need arises, to cut temporary greens to protect the greens.

The holes have now been named – 1 – 18 in order- Duckworths Way, Ramblers. Kingfisher Dive, Mallards Landing, Little Oak, Church Walk, Tall Pines, Thrushes Bank, Dew Pond, Wilders Dream, Orchid Corner, White Horse, Lodge Gate, Temple Approach, High Bank, Turnpike Climb, Punchbowl and Churchill’s Copse.  The last being named after Dave Robert’s spaniel who was so much part of the scene and had, unfortunately, to be put down at the beginning of December.

10       GENERAL COMMITTEE: The Christmas Dinner had to be cancelled due to lack of support.  It is being included in the 2009 Fixture List and will be open to all and called the Club Christmas Dinner.   Ian Ridsdale has taken over the running of all the winter Competitions and will be taking the entries for the Club Summer KOs.   The 2009 Fixture list should be available within the next two weeks.  The Juniors are having a fixture list this year, centred round the school holidays, so that they can all participate.   Due to the shortage of a cabinet for the Seniors Cups, the matter is being looked in to whether to purchase one or have one made and put under the television.  There is a vacancy for a member on the General Committee.

11      COUNTY MATTERS: Connie brought back the new EWGA medal rules etc.   There is a move to raise money for the continued support for the Juniors and the need to provide uniforms etc.  Saltford is holding a money raising day and other clubs are being encouraged to do the same.

12     ANY OTHER BUSINESS:  Jackie reported on the situation with the sweatshirts.  12 have been ordered and have been paid for by Jackie and Janith, but will be sold through the shop.  It is hoped they will appeal to all members so more can be ordered and perhaps a larger range of colours made available.     Anne is starting to do a new Committee picture board.  The collection was discussed for Valeria’s birthday party.  It will all be spent on presents.    Draw night will be Tuesday 24th March at 7p.m. with a Bring and Buy sale afterwards.

Meeting Closed 2.30p.m.

Next Meeting will be Thursday 5th February and will start at 2.30p.m. with all Lady Officials being invited to attend prior to the Committee meeting at 3.p.m.

               9.     REPORT FROM GREENS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE: Greens have been overseeded & liquid feed applied.  Most of the white markers in front of the greens have been removed to allow the grass to grow.  Course improvements for the autumn include: Path on the 7th.  Gravel banding to improve drainage on the course.  Bunker re-shaping, particularly the greenside bunker on the left of the 15th.

GUR only to be marked by the greenstaff in future.  Repaired GUR starting to grow.

  1. 10.    GENERAL COMMITTEE: The Junior section was discussed.  There had been an incident when two men had accused some of the Juniors of cheating in a competition, when they returned exceptional scores.  The parents have written to the Club and complained and the men have been instructed to write and apologize to the juniors concerned.  There is also the question of the Juniors winning the men’s competitions – a suggestion was put forward, by the Ladies, that, as with the Ladies, they should only be able to win the money put into the competition through the entry fees of the juniors.  This will be put forward at the next General committee meeting.  There was a suggestion that the price of the Quiz Nights should be reduced, so as to attract more people.  They also raised the idea of a Burns Night, Bonfire Night and Halloween.  Moving Open week to 20th to 23rd June.   The Men now have to sign a book and pay their money before their Competitions and not  just sign on the computer as some have been failing to pay.  Driving Range to open on 13th September for Club members and 14th September for outsiders, with some sort of event.  There has been an official complaint from Sherborne when they came to play a mixed friendly on a Sunday, they couldn’t find anywhere to sit in the Clubhouse, as the dining room had been overbooked and and spilled out into the Clubhouse.   Their sandwiches were slow in coming and there was no dress code.

11      COUNTY MATTERS: There will be an increase from £4 to £5 per capita membership fee, this being the first increase in 4 years.    Some of the other Clubs, Burnham, Farrington etc. have been very pro-active in a recruitment programme to interest girls and Connie wishes to go to see some of these clubs to see what they are doing.   The ELGA has now turned into the English Women’s Golf Association which has been set up as a private company.   Somerset’s regional representative is Margaret Giddon (past President) and all queries should go through her and not to Head Office. There is a move to reconsider not requiring a neutral course for the Roger Cup matches.

12     ANY OTHER BUSINESS:  The matter arose re. qualifiying cards for the Ladies Championship – some members to be chased to get the three cards for the competition.  Next raffle to be for 4th September.   Not many entries for the Coffee morning at present, to let it run until after the next meeting.  The question of qualification to play for the Alliance team was raised – this will be fully looked into and discussed with the Alliance Captain and the findings reported at the next meeting

9. REPORT FROM GREENS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE: Greens have now been verticut in 3 directions. Thatch degrading product has been applied. Leak on the 18th hopefully mended for last time. The re-turfing on the 18th Green has exposed the problem of trees roots. A trench has been dug and a large barrier inserted between the green and the trees. If this is successful, it will be used on the 7th also. With the staff holidays, the green staff are hard pressed to do anything but keep the grass under control.

10. GENERAL COMMITTEE: There will soon be a half way house behind the 9th Green. Dave Wye has procured a summerhouse, with veranda and another club member is supplying the plinth for it to stand on. A new competitions board has also been purchased. The section has been asked to give £100 toward each project. The lady Captain informed the Committee that she would have to see the Treasurer to assess how our funds stood. There was a problem with one of the Men's section not having completed his qualifying cards but having played the first round of the KO and winning. He has been disqualified. Summer Party has been cancelled due to lack of support. It is hoped that it might be possible to get Brian Hugget to open the new covered Driving Range. Once again, the Mixed Open visitors are being offered 2 for 1 vouchers to play Orchardleigh. Sally was going to enquire as to whether this could be offered at the Ladies Open & Bowmaker

11 COUNTY MATTERS: N/R

There was a letter from a member voicing her concern about the difficulties being met trying to arrange matches in the knock out competitions. She suggested that the week-end players should be in one half of the draw only. The Secretary was instructed to write to her and explain that as the majority of our low handicap players, played at the week-end, this would not be a workable solution.

5. CAPTAIN'S REPORT: We welcome Anne Regler back onto the committee. Starters hut has now been moved to a safer position.
Congratulations to the Rogers Cup team who won against Taunton Vale at Burnham and Berrow, 4 games to 3

Section Money 2065.46

7. HANDICAPS: The matter of the member who was put up .2 for signing in for the Vincent Cup and not playing, was discussed. The decision stands. The question of using the Wednesday Stablefords as qualifiers was also raised and after consulting with the Manager, the position is that the ladies can play on Wednesdays, use them as a qualifier but only win the entry money paid by the ladies.
8. COMPETITIONS:
8a Secretary's Report: Alison Godwin & Sue Sweet won the Ping Competition

Liz South retained the Vincent Cup. Sara Tunstall won the Barwell Masters

8b Alliance: N/R

8c Interclub: Played Enmore and Tall Pines - won both

8d Ladies Friendlies: Won at Wells 3/2 Lost at Woodspring 4/0

8e Mixed Friendlies - Lost at Woodspring. Won against West Wilts at home.

9. REPORT FROM GREENS & GROUNDS COMMITTEE: N/R
10. GENERAL COMMITTEE: It should be made clear that it is not the decision of the Professionals as to whether there are trolleys or not. This decision is made by the Green staff. The staff at the Desk are getting a lot of abuse because of this misconception. There was also concern that when the klaxon is sounded in the case of thunder & lightening, there are parts of the course where it cannot be heard, so in future, it will be sounded from various points round the Clubhouse & Practice ground area and further down the front nine.
11. COUNTY MATTERS: N/R
12. ANY OTHER BUSINESS: Iris Macey, with the Committee's approval, is changing the age limit of her Competition from
55 to 60 years of age, providing the entrant is 60 during the year of the Competition. There was a letter of complaint from a member about ladies arriving on Medal day, not having put their names down on the board, and playing in earlier slots than those who had signed up beforehand. In 2006 the LGU did away with the necessity to sign up before the day of a medal, so any member could just arrive and play. There was some discussion as to whether we should do away with the list, but it was decided to leave it as it stood, with the proviso, that members would have the right to play earlier than their slot, if there was a vacant tee time. The only players who would be asked to play at the back of the field, are those not playing in the Medal.
This rule is already in force at Orchardleigh. The Secretary was asked to answer the member's letter.

Hilary raised the matter of the competitions now being run in 2 Divisions and said that some members, she named two, who were unhappy with this and felt it was dividing the Ladies section and causing a ‘them and us' situation. There was some discussion, but nothing was resolved. To be discussed further after discussion with other section members.

Meeting ended 4.45p.m. Next meeting Thursday 5th June 2008 at 3.p.m.

12 ANY OTHER BUSINESS: The letter from Mrs Regler re. the Alternate Stableford on Saturday 15TH March was discussed at length. It was agreed to nominate a representative who could decide on the state of the course as to whether she regarded it as playable or not during play. Also Sally Lock, Sue Dicken or Sonia Probert could be contacted if there was any doubt before play commenced. The matter of the cards not being returned remained the same. All cards, whether completed or not, must be signed and put in the box. A wet card can be re-written and then placed in the box. On the question of disqualification from the next competition, this rule would not apply, as it was a ladies section stableford and therefore run under the club rules. The point of No Returns has to be taken in context and obviously in this case, was quite allowable.

Most of the queries are answered in Rule 33d. The Secretary was tasked with writing to Mrs. Regler and giving her the findings of the Committee. She was also asked to write to confirm the coach booking for Tuesday 3rd June.

Ladies Section Minutes - 8 March 2008

MINUTES OF MEETING HELD ON SATURDAY 8th March 2008

PRESENT: Sally Lock, Lucy Difazio, Sue Dicken, Sonia Probert, Janith Small

APOLOGIES: Connie Gilchrist, Sue Sweet, Di Norris

MINUTES OF LAST MEETING: Accepted & Signed.

MATTERS ARISING: Roll-ups: Despite the odd lady member who disagrees with the trial run of drawing in the order of the members arriving, it was decided to continue with the trial, as the majority of members were in favour.

CAPTAIN'S REPORT: The 3 Captains' Day is full, but the format was not as intended. However, it has been decided to leave it. The Raffle - which will be run by the Ladies (Mollie Stebbings in charge) is for the Driving Range. The Coffee Morning and the Bowmaker are both full. Lucy suggested that another Coffee Morning could be run in October, Tuesday 14th was decided on. The Office are being asked to do the posters, postage etc. and we will pay. There has been a good response to Ian's group tuition.

TREASURER'S REPORT: Money at Bank as at 08/03/08 £4884.52

This amount includes:

Sally's Charity 388.73

Entries for 2008 opens:

Bowmaker 1005.00#

Coffee Morning 210.00

Mixed Open 750.00

4BBB 467.50#

Ladies Section Money 2063.29

# includes some green fees still to be paid over.

HANDICAPS: Handicap meeting with Dave Forrest which confirmed that you could not be cut playing ‘social golf' - there would appear to be no need for separate handicap committees, as handicaps can only be cut in qualifying competitions, or if a player is playing consistently under his handicap, he will need to have at least 6 cards on which he has played 8 strokes under his handicap, then it can be reviewed and sent to Congu.

COMPETITIONS: The first Medal was played on March 6th with the alternate day on Sunday 3rd. There were no players on the alternate day. The winner of the Silver Division was Loes deKleuver with Gloria Barber winning the Bronze.

REPORT FROM GENERAL COMMITTEE: There is to be a grand opening of the Driving Range - format still to be decided. The suggestions are a competition with a meal afterwards, followed by a grand opening of the Range by some famous person. We are hoping for a lot of press coverage. The position of the Starters Hut was raised again as it was felt to be dangerous where it is. It is hoped to re-position it further back so it is not in play for anyone off the whites.

GREENS & GROUNDS: Sonia reported that the drainage done over the Winter had been a great success. There are two lime trees and an oak to be dealt with. The greens are to be verti-drained on 27th March but the greens will not be hollow tined until the autumn. Preferred lies will depend on the weather. There will be work carried out on the fairway bunkers to reduce their height. A decision on this will be taken at the next Greens committee meeting.

ANY OTHER BUSINESS: The matter was raised about ladies signing up for medals etc. but not taking part

Sonia will put up a notice stating the rules from the Ladies Constitution which covers this point.

Meeting closed at 10.35 a.m.

Date of next meeting Thursday 27th March at 4.p.m. at the Clubhouse
