Senior's Newsletter for September 2017
Dear Senior members
As the summer comes to a close, I thought I would just remind you of a few events that will be coming up shortly.
Senior’s Invitation Day
This will take place on Friday 13th October with first tee starting at 09.30. Always a good day and this year we have decided that each member can invite either 1 or 3 guests (to make up pairs or fourballs). There will be no costs to members and just a £10 green fee for each guest. Coffee and bacon baps will be provided on arrival and a small complimentary meal offered to all. Prizes for the top 3 finishing pairs. Full details will be posted on the Seniors noticeboard shortly. Closing date for entries is Friday 6th October.
This year’s AGM will be held in the clubhouse at 08.15 on Monday Nov 13th (before rollup). Complimentary coffee and bacon baps will be available.
As per usual, any member is invited to submit a proposal in advance for consideration at the meeting. Blank proposal forms can be found on the noticeboard. The deadline for receipt of any proposal is 31st October. This year, in particular, we are looking for proposals concerning the use of our surplus funds so please take this opportunity to put your ideas forward.
Also available on the noticeboard will be nomination forms for all next year’s Committee positions (except Captain-Elect). Feel free to volunteer yourselves for any of the Committee positions available – new blood is always welcome! Closure date for receipt of nominations is mid-day on 31st October.
Seniors Annual Dinner
Our Annual Dinner this year is on Fri 15th December and will be held in the clubhouse.
This year you may invite guests along. No restrictions on numbers at the moment but obviously this will be subject to overall numbers staying within our maximum allowance.
Again, all appropriate notices will appear on our noticeboard in good time.
Team Results for September friendly matches
We have enjoyed a very successful run of results during September, details of which are already posted on our website.
Seniors Match Results for Sept 2018.
Since our morale boosting win at Long Sutton,we have played 3 matches all at home.
Yeovil visited us on Wednesday 6th September and despite us giving them over 40 shots we recorded our best win of the season, by 6 matches to 0.
Our next visitors were Tidworth Garrison. Handicaps were much closer in this match but once again the team performed very well, recording a win by 4 -1/2 to 1-1/2.
Our third match this month was our final home match on 20th September. This time our opponents were Sherborne and Vice Captain Jim led the team to another fine victory by 5 matches to 1.
We have now won 10 of our last 12 matches and with one match left to play (Mendip Springs) I would like to thank everyone who has supported the team throughout the season.
Match Result v Long Sutton (A) 29th August 2017
The result of this fixture was a stunning victory for Orchardleigh Seniors by five and a half matches to one half. This despite the home team's effort to thwart us by hollow coring and sanding the greens the day before!
Congratulations to all the team for their effort and commitment.

Latest Captain's Newsletter - July 28th, 2017
Good evening Gentlemen.
Since my last message to you all the Seniors have played 3 matches - all at home.
On the 14th July our visitors were Cumberwell Park. Most of the matches were close apart from Vice Captain Jim and Teds' match which resulted in a home win of 7 and 6.
The match result was a win by Orchardleigh by 4 matches to 2.
The result of our home fixture with Bath on 20th July was another resounding win of 4 and a half to 1 and a half.
Millfield fielded a team of 10 players for our annual match on 25th July. The Orchardleigh team was captained successfully by last year's captain, Pete Maunder. The final score was a win for Orchardleigh by 6 holes.
The following day we welcomed the Seniors from Burnham and Berrow. In a reversal of the opening match of the season we were victors by 4 matches to 2.
On a much gloomier note the Orchardleigh Seniors Somerset Bowl Team travelled to Farrington on Tuesday 25th July to play against Burnham and Berrow in the quarter finals of the Somerset Bowl.
Having been knocked out last year by this team we were even more determined to beat them this time round.
Unfortunately, with the match all square, John Scott and I had to go to extra holes to decide the tie
and we were beaten on the 19th hole.
Thanks to Malcolm Lloyd and all the team members for their support, perhaps next year we can
avoid Burnham and Berrow.
All the best to all members who have entered the Seniors Championship next week and I look forward to seeing you all soon.
