Match Result v Yeovil (A). 26th April 2017
On Wednesday 26th the team travelled for yet another away match - this time at Yeovil .On a cold but bright afternoon we enjoyed a very close and friendly match.
The pairings of Pete Maunder and Malcolm Lloyd, Captain Phil Jefferies and John Scott, Paul Sherrell and Tony Birch all managed to win. However, once again, Mike Norris was offered a bribe on the last hole and accepted to record a match result of 3-3. A good result at a venue where we rarely win.
Our next match is on Thursday 4th May at Wells. We welcome new Seniors team players Ray Clarke and Jan de Cluvers for this match but still require more members to sign up for the team matches. For those of you who haven't played it is a very enjoyable and friendly game ,so please support the Seniors Section.
Regards Phil (Captain)
Match Result v Bowood (A). 24th April 2017
The Seniors Team travelled to Bowood on Monday 24th April .The course was in excellent condition as usual (but why do they have so many bunkers, some in the middle of the fairways?).
After a very tough 18 holes none of the Orchardleigh pairings managed to win, but with 3 matches halved and 3 matches lost the match result was 4 1/2 to 1 1/2.
Match Result v Long Sutton. 11th April 2017
The Seniors continued their program with a home match against Long Sutton on Tuesday 11th April. After a very enjoyable match we were victorious by 3 and 1/2 matches to 2 and 1/2. It should have been a much larger victory but it appears Mike Norris accepted a small bribe on the last green to conveniently miss an 18" putt and give the visiting Captain a half! A special mention to Pete Maunder and Mike Passingham who proved to be in a different league to their opponents winning 6 and 5 .
This was our 4th match and after a very poor start we have now won 2 and lost 2.
Sign up sheets for the next 3 matches( Bowood, Yeovil and Wells) are on the notice board so please put your name down. It would be nice to see new and higher handicap players participating.
Match Result v Cumberwell. 6th April 2017
Orchardleigh Seniors travelled to Cumberwell on the 6th April for their third match of the season . With great weather we recorded our first win of the season beating Cumberwell by 3 and1/2 to 2 and1/2.The course was in great condition and, as John Collings and Paul Moakes discovered, so were their opponents. Our next match is on Tuesday 11th April at home to Long Sutton.
Somerset Bowl Competition Result. 5th April 2017
On Tuesday 5th April the Orchardleigh Seniors Somerset Bowl team played the reigning Champions Saltford at Bath .The format for this competition is 5 pairs per team playing foursomes. Orchardleigh were led off by Team Captain Malcolm Lloyd and Rick Wright and after a very up and down match Malcolm and Rick were winners by 2 and 1.
The second Orchardleigh pairing of Rod Jelly and John Cocks were always in control of their match and won 4 and 3. The third Orchardleigh pairing of Seniors Captain Phil Jefferies and John Scott struggled early to read the greens but eventually found their touch and cruised to a 3 and 2 win.The fourth Orchardleigh pairing of Paul Sherrell and Brian Hayley also found the greens very difficult and could not overcome a very strong Saltford pairing and lost 3 and 2. The final pairing of Guy Turner and in-form Peter Foote could not master the strong final Saltford pairing and the difficult conditions and eventually lost 2 and 1.
However, by a match result of 3 to 2, Orchardleigh progress through to the next round. Congratulations to all the Team and the best of luck in the next round
