Captains' Drive-in

The three Captains' Drive-in took place on Satruday 4th January. There were 19 teams of four who took part in the shotgun start Texas Scramble. This was followed by a one course lunch, then the three captains Simon Barnes, (Club captain), Robert Miller (Seniors) and Sonia Probert (Ladies) went to the first tee to take their drives. Sonia's landed on the right side of the fairway whereas Simon Barnes's long but very right drive took him onto the 9th fairway and Robert Miller produced a long drive straight down the middle of the 1st fairway.  The prizes for placing thier marker stick closest to each of the drives was won by Pat Jones (ladies) Terry South (men) and Gavin Rea (seniors).

Prizes for the Texas Scramble on the front nine: 1st - Mark Ford, John Merrills, Mark Adams and Tim Walton R/U - Steve Regler, Martin Sutherland, Dave Wye and Paul Chivers.  Back nine: 1st - Neil Dicks, Julian Seviour, Joe Hearn and Lewis Cains  R/U - Liam Litterick, Jordan Andrews, Paul Williams and Nick Lemon.  There was a separate prize for the Ladies' teams which was won by Anne Regler, Mel Sutherland, Marion Underhill and Christina Francis.

The Ladies held their annual Christmas lunch on Tuesday 10th December. It was too wet to play golf but we all enjoyed a few games of bingo and a quiz before the three course lunch.  Afterwards the prize winners for 2019 were presented with their trophies.

Ladies' AGM

Marie Cusworth handing over the Captain's jersey to Sonia Probert our new Lady Captain, at the Ladies AGM held on Tuesday 12th November 2019.

Marie reported on her successful and enjoyable year and thanked everyone who had helped her during the year and with raising money for her chosen charity the British Heart Foundation. So far she has raised £1102.15 with a little more to be added to this figure.  Sonia as the incoming Lady Captain has chosen the Air Ambulance for her charity. After reports from the Treasurer, Handicap Secretary and Competition secretary the various team captains also gave their reports.

This was followed by the election of new officers. Jackie Pudney as handicap secretary replacing Anne Regler and Sue Chalker as secretary replacing Carol Marquiss.  Audrey Holland remains as competition secretary and Liz Attenborough as treasurer.  Vron Jefferies, Carol Jenkins and Ann James were all elected onto the committee.  All the team captains stay for another year, but Anne Carpenter is replacing Sheila Goodbody as the Somerset Seniors rep.

                                                               

After the meeting was closed the winners of the monthly Medal and Stableford competitions were handed their prizes

Phoebe Stock & Lizzy Bryant

Phoebe Stock has recently been selected for the Somerset County Girls Performance Squad to join Lizzy Bryant who was already in the team.  They go for training at Burnham & Berrow once a month for training and play in some friendly matches during the winter in preparation for being part of the Somerset County team during the 2020 season. Congratulations to both of them.

Ladies v Seniors

On Wednesday 16th October the Ladies took on the Seniors in the annual fun competition. Once again the Seniors out-performed the Ladies with a total score of 520 stableford points whilst the Ladies achieved 474 points.  The winning pair with 65 points were Pat Jones and Dave Jackson.  Loes de Kleuver and Bob Marquiss came 2nd with 57 points.  The Lady who won the best individual score was Sue Sweet and Mike Norris took the men's prize.  Nearest the pin was won by Loes de Kleuver for the Ladies and by Terry Ryan for the men.  Forty took part in the competition and forty two sat down to the carvery lunch afterwards.  The presentation of the prizes took place at the end of the lunch.
