SENIORS UPDATE May 2018

Hi all, what a change in the course since the arrival of the sunnier weather.  Plenty of run on the ball if you hit the fairway, the rough may be short but it’s thick!!  Now we are well into the “Season” the course is busier, we are now over 500 members, the days of whizzing round the course in the mornings, especially at weekends, are over.  However you all will have seen the email from the club on slow play.  Please enjoy your rounds of golf and employ “Ready Golf”, don’t let the Seniors get the blame for slow play.

TEAM

Our team is doing ok.  We are now won 3, drawn 2 and lost 3.  More importantly we have had 5 new players, all with higher handicaps, playing and enjoying the friendly banter, golf and social afterwards.  If you fancy joining in please add your name to the availability lists on the notice board.  The sheets for the 4 matches in June are up on the board.  The first is the return home game against Bristol & Clifton on Friday 1st June.

AWAYDAY AT SALTFORD

Also in June is my Awayday at Saltford on Tuesday 26 June with the first tee at 1100.  There will be coffee/bacon roll from 1000, 18 hole competition and 2 course meal afterwards.  Cost will be £35 per head.  Please put your name on the entry sheet on the notice board.  Buggies will be available but you will have to book direct with the Club.  Closing date will be Tues 19th so that I can book tee times and catering.

COMPETITIONS

For those that have entered the Knock-out competitions a gentle reminder that preliminary and 1st round matches have to be completed by 15 June.  You will need a really good reason for Robert not to disqualify you if the match is not completed!!!

The entry list for the Pairs Cup is also on the notice board.  Unlike the Pairs Knock-out you pick your partner for this Cup and play 4BBB stableford on the day.

OPENS

Both the Pairs and Bowmaker Seniors Opens are filling up.  In fact there are only a few early slots left for the Pairs on Tues 19 June.  If you wish to play in either get your entry in asap.

I have discussed the organisation of both Opens with Jordon and have offered our assistance.  We will need some volunteers to book in, act as starter, some spotters and some general help to make sure our visiting Seniors have a great day.  Jordon has agreed that all volunteers will receive complimentary food and drink throughout the day.  The club will organise all entries & tee times, check cards and arrange vouchers/prizes for presentation on the day.

Please let me know if you can help.  Thanks.

3 CAPTAINS DAY

You will have seen the reminders to get your name on the board if you wish to play on Bank Holiday Monday 28th May.  Neil, Lorraine and myself will be making the draw this Thurs lunchtime so you have till then to add your name.  If you can’t get to the club, email me and I’ll add you to the list.

All for now and enjoy the Sunshine

Jim

Seniors Match Results for Sept 2018.

by Office

on Wed September 13, 2017

Since our morale boosting win at Long Sutton,we have played 3 matches all at home.

Yeovil visited us on Wednesday 6th September and despite us giving them over 40 shots we recorded our best win of the season, by 6 matches to 0.

Our next visitors were Tidworth Garrison. Handicaps were much closer in this match but once again the team performed very well, recording a win by 4 -1/2 to 1-1/2.

Our third match this month was our final home match on 20th September. This time our opponents were Sherborne and Vice Captain Jim led the team to another fine victory by 5 matches to 1.

We have now won 10 of our last 12 matches and with one match left to play (Mendip Springs) I would like to thank everyone who has supported the team throughout the season.

Best wishes
Phil
